ISRS hosted a meeting with a delegation from the OSCE

On September 3, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS) hosted a meeting with a delegation from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), led by Director of the Conflict Prevention Centre Catherine Ferron. She was accompanied by Head of the Central Asia Desk Lillian Langford, OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan Ambassador Antti Karttunen, Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the OSCE Ambassador Raphael Nägeli and Deputy Permanent Representative of Finland to the OSCE Mari Neuvonen.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on key challenges to regional and international security, including terrorism, extremism, and the rise of radicalization. Particular attention was given to developments in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

The OSCE delegation was briefed on Uzbekistan’s foreign policy priorities, with a special emphasis on strengthening good neighborly relations and fostering mutual trust across the Central Asian region.

The Uzbek side also outlined its positions and approaches regarding the situation in Afghanistan, highlighting the importance of ensuring long-term stability in the region. It was emphasized that achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan is a crucial factor for maintaining regional security.

As a result of the meeting, both sides agreed to maintain close and regular dialogue between ISRS and the OSCE, including the organization of joint events focused on regional stability and sustainable development.
