Eldor Aripov takes part in an international conference organized by the American Council on Foreign Policy

On 1-3 June, Warrenton (Virginia, United States) hosted an International Conference on “Tolerant Islam: Consensus Building”. The event was organized by the American Foreign Policy Council.

The event was attended by experts and scientists, high-ranking officials from the United States and Muslim countries. Among them is the Chairman of the World Council of Muslim Communities Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi (UAE), former Foreign Minister of Indonesia Alwi Shihab, the Director of the Crime Prevention Unit of Bahrain’s Interior Ministry Ali Amini, Director of the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute Svante Cornell.

Uzbekistan was represented by the Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov.

The participants of the event discussed the formation of coordinated approaches to countering international terrorism and extremism.

Eldor Aripov informed about the approaches of Uzbekistan in resolving the situation in Afghanistan. Detailed information was provided on the results of the High-Level International Conference on “Regional cooperation of Central Asian countries within the framework of the Joint Action Plan for the Implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy” held in March this year, as well as the International Forum “Dialogue of Declarations” that took place in May this year in Bukhara, following which the Bukhara Declaration was adopted at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The participants of the event got also acquainted with the experience of Uzbekistan in the fight against terrorism, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of citizens repatriated from the war zones.

The Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies and the American Foreign Policy Council signed a Memorandum of Understanding within the framework of the conference. The document provides for the establishment of cooperation and regular working contacts between the think tanks of the two countries through joint research projects, the organization of forums, workshops and roundtable discussions on issues of mutual interest.
