Russian experts visit Uzbekistan’s Termez city

Russian experts – Director of the Center for Eurasian Studies at MGIMO under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia I. Safranchuk and Program Director of the Valdai Discussion Club T. Bordachev paid a working visit to the city of Termez as part of their stay in Uzbekistan within the framework of the International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities”.

The trip was organized by the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to familiarize the Russian side with the large-scale work on the creation and development of modern infrastructure in Surkhandarya region aimed at enhancing and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with Afghanistan.

A presentation of the activities and potential of the Educational Center for Training Afghan Citizens in the city of Termez, created at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in 2018, was organized for Russian specialists.

The guests got acquainted with the work of the international checkpoint Termez – Hairaton. The experts also visited the international cargo center, which works to export and import agricultural products.

Russian specialists have been presented a project for the construction of a free trade zone on the border with Afghanistan on an area of ​​26 hectares.

The guests visited cultural and historical heritage places – archaeological and local history museums, the mausoleum of Termez-ota, got acquainted with the landscaping work carried out in this city.
