The leadership of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS), represented by the First Deputy Director of ISRS Akramjon Nematov, took part in the next meeting of the Academic Council of the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME) on May 6 this year.
The members of the Academic Council were informed about the results of the recently held International Scientific and Practical Conference “Water Diplomacy in Central Asia: Trust, Dialogue and Multilateral Cooperation for Sustainable Development”, organized by ISRS on April 10, 2024 at TIIAME as part of the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the university.
It was noted that the participants of the international forum highly appreciated the contribution of Central Asian countries to the development of the conceptual foundations of water diplomacy and the growing role of the region’s states in shaping the global agenda of water cooperation.
Emphasizing the importance of the past event, Akramjon Nematov expressed gratitude to the university management and staff for their active participation and comprehensive support in organizing the conference. He noted that the key task in the coming period is the practical implementation of ideas and proposals developed following the conference.
Particular emphasis was placed on promoting water diplomacy as a separate scientific discipline, emphasizing the relevance of including the direction of "Water Diplomacy" in the Classifier of Specialties and allocating grant places for students from Central Asian countries to study at TIIAME in this direction.
The extreme importance of increasing scientific cooperation with the countries of Central Asia, including the Afghan side, on all aspects of water issues was also noted.
In this context, the need to use the scientific potential of the university in searching for and finding mutually acceptable solutions in the field of transboundary water resources management as one of the key factors in maintaining a high level of regional cooperation was noted.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to expand cooperation between ISRS and TIIAME, and jointly implement scientific and educational projects aimed at ensuring the sustainable development of Uzbekistan and the countries of Central Asia as a whole.
