The event was held on the eve of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan and gathered heads of scientific and research institutes, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, leading political and economic centers, academies of sciences, as well as parliamentarians of the two countries.
First Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Akramjon Nematov delivered a speech on “New opportunities for sustainable development in the political and economic sphere”.
ISRS representative stressed that the conference organized on the eve of an important political event, the visit of the distinguished President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Uzbekistan, will contribute to the practical content of the agenda of the upcoming talks at the highest level, finding new growth points and drivers for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two states.
Mr. Nematov noted that there are all the necessary prerequisites for this. “Thanks to the political will and joint efforts of the leaders of our countries in recent years, we have managed to increase mutual trust, bring our relations to the level of a comprehensive and multifaceted strategic partnership”, he stated.
“Over the past six years, the trade turnover has grown 4.2 times to $881.9 million. Our countries' foreign trade turnover is increasing – Uzbekistan's figure has grown to $37.7 billion, Turkmenistan's to $14 billion. The number of joint ventures has reached 162. Our countries demonstrate high growth rates, amounting to more than 6.8% in total by the end of 2021”, the expert said.
“At the same time, these achieved results are not the limit and our countries have sufficient resources and potential for further development of cooperation”, Akramjon Nematov concluded.
