Uzbekistan and Algeria could become drivers of interregional cooperation

On July 14, 2022, ISRS experts held an online meeting with colleagues from Algeria’s National Institute of Global Strategic Studies (INESG).

INESG is a leading research organization in Algeria, founded in 1984. The Institute assists in the development of public policy based on the analysis of current international events and trends. It is engaged in the study of politics, economics, green energy, migration, organized crime, defense and security and their impact on the development of the country.

The main topic of the meeting was the discussion of the prospects for the development of Uzbekistan – Algerian relations and strengthening the role of the analytical centers of the two countries in this process.

During the dialogue, Algerian experts were informed about the transformations taking place in recent years in the socio-political life of Uzbekistan, the reforms carried out in the economy, and the achievements of Uzbekistan.

The parties noted that this year Uzbekistan and Algeria are celebrating a significant date – the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Over this entire period, Uzbekistan – Algerian relations have demonstrated a positive development trend, gradually enriching themselves with specific practical content.

At the same time, the priority of strengthening mutually beneficial ties is the expansion of the economic agenda of interaction. The promising areas of cooperation are the implementation of joint investment projects in the agricultural, pharmaceutical, medical, tourism and other areas.

During the discussion, INESG representatives emphasized that Algeria is watching with great interest the ongoing changes not only in Uzbekistan, but also in Central Asia as a whole, which, through the joint efforts of the countries of the region, is turning into a space for sustainable development and mutually beneficial cooperation, into a more capacious and dynamically expanding market. “Taking this into account, Uzbekistan and Algeria could become drivers of interregional cooperation between Central Asia and North Africa,” the Algerian experts are convinced.

In achieving all these goals, the establishment of close interaction at the level of experts plays an important role. It is the form of cooperation that can turn into a kind of generator of ideas and proposals that can fill cooperation between Uzbekistan and Algeria with additional concrete content.

In this context, an important event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ISRS and INESG during an online meeting, designed to give impetus to the intensification of bilateral relations. The document provides for the development of cooperation and regular working contacts between the analytical centers of the two countries through joint research projects, organizing forums, workshops and roundtable discussions on issues of mutual interest.

Following the meeting, ISRS and INESG experts expressed their readiness to establish a regular dialogue that would allow for an exchange of views on all areas of bilateral relations to maximize the full potential of bilateral interaction.
