Meeting of the director of ISRS with the US Special Representative for Afghanistan

December 10 this year director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Cooperation under the President of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad.

Deputy Assistant to the President of the United States Lisa Curtis, Charge d'affaires at the US Embassy in Uzbekistan Alan Meltzer, senior officials of the White House, US Department of Defense and State Department also participated in the event.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan, discussed the prospects for a peace negotiation process, as well as bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States.

The guests highly appreciated the efforts of the Republic of Uzbekistan to resolve the Afghan issue and social and economic recovery in Afghanistan.

According to the American side, the results of the Tashkent Conference held in March this year demonstrated the increased role and significant potential of the countries of Central Asia in the stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan.

Washington welcomes Tashkent’s initiatives on the full involvement of Afghanistan in regional economic processes,
the system of trade, economic, transport and communication links with neighboring countries.

Thus, the dynamic policy of Uzbekistan creates favorable conditions for the further development of multi-faceted Uzbek-American cooperation on the regional and international agenda.
