President of Uzbekistan receives Pakistani delegation

On 2 February, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Abdul Razak Dawood.

The parties exchanged views on prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and Pakistan.

As the President of Uzbekistan noted, despite the pandemic, active contacts and exchanges continue, contributing, first of all, to the progressive expansion of practical cooperation between the two countries. The trade turnover is growing, and the number of joint projects of cooperation between leading companies is increasing.

Abdul Razak Dawood expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for organizing the meeting and conveyed greetings and best wishes on behalf of the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan.

The Adviser emphasized that Pakistan highly appreciates and supports the initiative to promote the railway construction project through the territory of Afghanistan, which will connect Central and South Asia by the shortest route, and will allow to reach and effectively use the infrastructure of Pakistan seaports.

Other current issues on the joint economic agenda were also discussed.

Agreements were reached to consider opportunities for the development of cargo and air transportation, to prepare a preferential trade agreement, to exchange experience in customs, to intensify business dialogue and to hold business events.

The schedule of the upcoming meetings and contacts at the highest levels has been agreed upon.
