ISRS representative attends an international conference in Guangzhou

The annual 2024 Understanding China Conference, themed “Carry through the Reform to the End – Chinese Modernization and New Opportunities for World Development”, was held in Guangzhou from 2 to 4 December.

The event was attended by politicians, scientists, experts, business representatives, and media from countries in Asia, Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and the CIS. In total, more than 600 people.

President Xi Jinping addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech, pointing out that the world is changing rapidly.

The event included two plenary sessions, six parallel workshops, and 14 thematic forums.

The Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies (ISRS) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Mustafayev addressed the fifth parallel workshop, dedicated to the prospects for cooperation of the Global South. He focused on the following current issues of increasing collaboration between the countries of the Global South.

First, strengthening commitment to the fundamental principles of the “Bandung Spirit” is of particular importance. According to him, it is important to continue to adhere firmly to such basic principles as mutual trust, equality of all races, respect for territorial integrity, refusal to pursue aggressive policies and peaceful settlement of disputes.

Second, Mr. Mustafayev believes this is the adaptation of the economies of the countries of the Global South to the growing negative consequences of the global crisis. 

Third, according to the ISRS Deputy Director, it is necessary to intensify cooperation in food security.

Fourth, Mr. Mustafayev noted that the priority is to consolidate efforts to increase the effectiveness of the fight against climate change.

Fifth, the specialist summed up, noting that the development of cultural and humanitarian ties is essential in deepening the interaction of developing countries.
