On 28 November 2025, the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ISRS) hosted a meeting with Makoto Onozuka, a representative of the Tokyo office of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).
The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in the areas of renewable energy and the green economy, exchanging expert assessments and views on possible formats of interaction.
It was noted that Uzbekistan continues reforms aimed at diversifying its energy mix, accelerating the development of renewable energy sources, and introducing modern technologies–factors that make the country attractive to high-tech partners, including Japanese companies. In particular, Makoto Onozuka emphasized the promising potential of the Uzbek market and JETRO’s interest in facilitating the involvement of Japanese businesses in energy projects.

Among the mutually beneficial areas of cooperation, the sides highlighted Japanese innovations in hydropower and wind energy, digitalization of energy systems, biogas technologies, and the production of green hydrogen. Their deployment could strengthen the resilience of Uzbekistan’s energy system and support the development of new sectors within the green economy.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their intention to continue expert dialogue aimed at shaping future cooperation formats to support the technological modernization of Uzbekistan’s energy sector.
