President of Uzbekistan meets with the President of Turkmenistan

On August 6, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasized the high level of organization of the Consultative Meeting of Central Asian Leaders, taking place in Avaza National Tourist Zone of Turkmenistan, which will undoubtedly become the next important stage in strengthening regional cooperation.

The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan discussed the current issues of the bilateral agenda, interaction at regional and international platforms.

The Heads of state noted with satisfaction that despite the difficult period of the pandemic, Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership demonstrate dynamic development.

The main attention was paid to the issues of enhancing trade and economic ties.

The progress of implementing the previously reached agreements was considered at the meeting. The importance of promoting new projects, enhancing contacts between neighboring regions and businesspeople of the two countries to continue the positive dynamics of cooperation was emphasized.

The Leaders of the two countries discussed the prospects for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, entering new markets through the corridors of South Asia and the South Caucasus, including the creation of an international transport and transit corridor under the Ashgabat Agreement.

Issues of preparation for the upcoming summit meetings were considered. An agreement was reached to hold meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council to identify new growth points and prepare promising projects and agreements.

The Leaders paid attention to the issues of enhancing cultural and humanitarian collaboration.

Following the meeting, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan confirmed their commitment to consistently deepening strategic partnership based on the principles of mutual trust and respect for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
