The Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan held a meeting with the experts of the United States Institute for Peace Scott Worden and Barmak Pazhwak. During the meeting, two sides discussed socio-economic and socio-political reforms in the country and prospects of cooperation between the ISRS and the United States Institute for Peace.
Experts highly appraised the efforts of Uzbek leadership aimed at implementing comprehensive reforms within the country, especially Uzbek government's policy on countering violent extremism, ensuring religious tolerance and spreading enlightened Islam.
According to S.Worden leadership of the United States Institute of Peace is interested in expanding cooperation with research centers of Uzbekistan. Taking into account the rich experience of the Republic of Uzbekistan in ensuring religious tolerance and spreading enlightened Islam, the American side offered to hold a seminar in Uzbekistan on combating violent extremism.
