On March 19 this year, ISRS hosted a meeting with experts from the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) headed by the UNOCT Senior Programme Management Officer Mehdi Knani.
The parties noted the productive cooperation in the fight against terrorism. In this context, the successful implementation of projects for the rehabilitation and reintegration of repatriates, as well as for countering the use of new technologies for terrorist purposes and the financing of terrorism, was emphasized.
It was noted that the scale of current programs and projects is a logical result of joint work within the framework of the Roadmap between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UNOCT for 2024-2025, as well as the Memorandum between the ISRS and the UNOCT.
The meeting participants also discussed further priorities for cooperation, including the possible implementation of the EU-UN Global Terrorism Threats Facility in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The EU-UN Global Terrorism Threats Facility was launched in 2022 by the UNOCT with financial support from the EU to provide practical assistance in countering terrorist and extremist threats. To date, more than 10 countries have benefited from the programme.
